Student Life

Students use and develop their unique talents and abilities beyond the normal classroom experience in many activities at Our Shepherd. Opportunities are found in the areas of Athletics, Fine Arts, and Academic Competitions.

Extended Care is also provided to students before school from 7 a.m. – 8:10 a.m. and after school from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m for a reasonable fee, and exists to provide a secure, Christian and caring environment for children enrolled in our school.

Athletics

Our Shepherd is unique to many private Christian schools in the Indianapolis area in that we provide athletic opportunities for students starting at 4 years old through 8th grade.

Philosophy

Each child in this school is redeemed by God and has been created with unique talents, abilities, and interests.  Each child should be provided with opportunities to develop these talents beyond the normal classroom experience, as time and personnel permit.  To that end, competitive athletic programs are offered to develop and promote the positive Christian growth of each student-athlete.

We strive not only to expand the individual’s physical abilities but also nurture them as a gift from God to be used for His praise and glory, utilizing them to the fullest potential.  Our intent is that each child participates at a level that is equal to his/her developmental stage.

Our Shepherd Lutheran School recognizes that our interscholastic sports program is an extra-curricular component of our instructional day.  Therefore, the child must maintain a high level of excellence in the classroom – both academically and behaviorally – to retain the privilege of participating in athletic activities.

Bible Quiz

Every October, a specially-selected team of eight 7th & 8th graders competes with teams from other area Lutheran schools on a pre-determined book of the Bible for the championship trophy. Our Shepherd’s teams have won the competition in 2005, 2008, 2013 and 2014.

Science Festival (Sci-Fest)

Students in grades 3-8 represent Our Shepherd to compete in the annual Sci-Fest in the spring with other Central Indiana Lutheran schools. Teams of 2-3 students work together to problem-solve and complete the challenge placed before them that day. Students in grades 1-2 complete in a Sci-Fest on campus with other Our Shepherd students.

In March and April, classroom Spelling Bees are run to choose the top three students in each of grades 5-8. Those students complete in the April School Spelling Bee to determine first, second, and third places for the school.
